Loving Musicbrick!!

April 13th, 2009

I’ve added a few more Musicbricks, and I’m really pleased with them. I’ve had some lovely comments, and as of today, The Heat Is On is at number 22 in the chart, Colours Of The Wind is at 32 and Full Moon is at 52 (all the two’s!!)

If you log in to the site you can vote, just click on the thumbs up or the thumbs down for the songs you like or hate, it’s that simple. It’s a brilliant site, I’ve discovered some new music and rediscovered some old stuff, give it a go!

I’m hopeful that Colours Of The Wind will make it a little further, into the top 30 as it has a bit of a ‘message’, so then there would be more chance that people will read it. Have a look and if you like it, vote for it!

 Cheers, S

My first rejection :-D

April 2nd, 2009

I have just received a message following submission of chapters 1-6 and it was a no, but I don’t think it was a ‘bad’ no, just that it doesn’t fit with his portfolio and isn’t quite strong enough. I’m happy with that, I only started writing in January, and I now have lots of feedback for a rewrite, so I’m not giving up.

I believe in my characters, their story, and the setting, I just need to practise how to get it from my head into someone else’s, that will take a little more time. I also know that I do have a clear ‘voice’ which has strengthened since I started Chapter One, so I will work on letting it show more.

The tasters will start appearing soon, once I have had a chance to do a little rewriting.

Don’t revere the peer

March 31st, 2009

My first article, hopefully the start of a glittering career, is now online at www.viewfromheremagazine.com

The print version will be out in May and I’ve even been asked for an autographed copy. (No, not by my mum!!)

I’m off for a celebratory cuppa!

My first article has been accepted!!!!

March 24th, 2009

Well, I couldn’t be more excited – I’m annoying my colleagues!

I have just had confirmation that my article has been accepted after a little adjustment! Wooohooo!!!

I have been told that they will let me know when it will appear (it will be online first and then, I believe, in print). As soon as it is available I will let you know, and hopefully add a link to the website.

I’m off for a celebratory cuppa…… S

Musicbrick

March 22nd, 2009

I’ve just posted a piece on a website called www.musicbrick.com The idea of the site is to build a wall of pieces on music. My first brick is on The Heat Is On by Glenn Frey and is a tribute to my cousin Richard who we lost to cancer last year.

I poured my heart into the piece and cried as I wrote, so was particularly chuffed to receive a comment on it which simply said ‘Beautiful…. just beautiful’.  At least now I feel that I did Richard proud.

The lesson learnt is that it’s OK to give of yourself when writing.

Metamorphosis

March 13th, 2009

I have just sent a short story called Metamorphosis to the Wind in the Willows centenary competition. Results are due on May 30th, so, if successful I’ll post a link, if not, I’ll post the story. Either way there will soon be some of my work available.

My first article

March 9th, 2009

I have just offered an article to a magazine, and they want it! As soon as it is all confirmed and I have a publishing date I’ll post it here so you can let me know what you think.

The crucial thing is that if all goes well, it will mean that I’ll then be a published writer, so keep your fingers crossed for me! Onwards and upwards!

It’s gone!!

March 3rd, 2009

Well, I’ve now sent the first six chapters off to the agent, so will let you know what feedback I get, keep your fingers crossed for me! I’m keeping fairly positive at the moment, although I know it may be a few weeks before I hear anything either way.

Meanwhile, Chapter 7 is formulating itself in my mind, and I was taken by surprise when a new character for Book Two popped into my head and said ‘Hi!’ yesterday. I’m doing some research on Chinese Mitten Crabs at the moment, where they originate from and what the culture is like in that area, so this will drive development of one of my characters and could even affect the plot lines I have planned for him.

I’m planning to upload a couple of extracts from the early chapters as tasters, feel free to blog me with feedback.

Cheers,

S

You should now be able to comment!

February 26th, 2009

Hopefully, with the changes I’ve just made you should now be able to post comments, I know some people are waiting to comment on the chapters.

I’m hoping to sort out the copy dissertation, some photos and also a soundtrack of my world, coming soon!

Look forward to hearing from you!

Sandra

Hello!

February 26th, 2009

Well, here I go. I’m going to post regular notes here, to keep you up to date with what I’ve been doing. You should be able to comment (assuming I’ve got the technology right!) so please do let me know your thoughts. I’ll be reviewing them before they appear, so keep it clean and polite, or I’ll delete you!

Just as a starter, I have just completed the first draft of Chapter 6 of my book, for the sake of this blog I’ll call it ‘Alex’s story’ which gives very little away!

The first 5 chapters just rolled out on their own. Chapter 6 was a little more tricky as it involved a couple of important turning points which I wanted to be sure were handled properly.

I have a handful of readers, waiting eagerly for each chapter as I complete them, so I know whether the story is ‘working’ or not. They are primed to be brutally honest, and have prompted a few tweaks here and there.

I’ll be sending 1-6 to an agent this week, once I’ve created a brief CV to go with them, any news will be posted here. (Good or bad!) and I’ve also asked a published author to read them, so will also let you know whether it’s a flop or whether Chapter 7 will be in the pipeline!

Till next time….. S
