So how can you justify rock concerts in the countryside??!

Easy. Wherever there’s land supporting wildlife there is a landowner needing to finance it. Sadly there is always an economic impact where wildlife is concerned.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting for a second that the RSPB start opening reserves for Coldplay, far from it! Knebworth, however, is a heritage estate, independent of all the organisations. The cost of running such a property is phenomenal, the temptation to seek sources of income must place incredible pressure on the owners. For some properties like this, selling land for development is an easy option, resulting in loss of space for wildlife.

When you think of it like that, a few days noise meaning the land is earning money is surely a better option. There will be some species that might move on, but others will stay, or return when it’s over. Unfortunately in the modern world not every landowner can put wildlife first at all times, which is why reserves are crucial.

So what can we do? Support heritage estates by visiting them (and paying to get in, not just walking on free footpaths), join wildlife charities, volunteer…

Actually the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. I’m trying to make a difference. Be the stone, don’t be the ripple.

Is just a few days away now. Cos I booked on day one I have been given a membership of the Founder Member’s Club (FMC) and invited to a pre-party on the Friday. I’m going to do a write up for the site of the whole event, partly cos I can, partly cos I expect it to be just awesome, but also cos it’s good practise for me!

Meanwhile, I’ve added a couple more musicbricks and will be adding lots more over the coming weeks…

Musicbrick Gold!

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

I received a newsletter from Musicbrick last night and they have started to select the best bricks to be labelled Musibrick Gold. Five bricks were chosen from nearly 2,000 on the site and *drum roll*

ONE OF THEM WAS MINE!!!!

I’d like to thank everyone that knows me……. seriously though, I’m dead chuffed as the one that was chosen is The Heat Is On which is about my cousin Richard. If you haven’t already, head to www.musicbrick.com and check out my bricks. While you’re there, sign up, add your own bricks and vote for your favourites too, at worst you’ll find some new music, chat to some new people, share some memories….. What’s not to like?!

Loving Musicbrick!!

Monday, April 13th, 2009

I’ve added a few more Musicbricks, and I’m really pleased with them. I’ve had some lovely comments, and as of today, The Heat Is On is at number 22 in the chart, Colours Of The Wind is at 32 and Full Moon is at 52 (all the two’s!!)

If you log in to the site you can vote, just click on the thumbs up or the thumbs down for the songs you like or hate, it’s that simple. It’s a brilliant site, I’ve discovered some new music and rediscovered some old stuff, give it a go!

I’m hopeful that Colours Of The Wind will make it a little further, into the top 30 as it has a bit of a ‘message’, so then there would be more chance that people will read it. Have a look and if you like it, vote for it!

 Cheers, S

Musicbrick

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

I’ve just posted a piece on a website called www.musicbrick.com The idea of the site is to build a wall of pieces on music. My first brick is on The Heat Is On by Glenn Frey and is a tribute to my cousin Richard who we lost to cancer last year.

I poured my heart into the piece and cried as I wrote, so was particularly chuffed to receive a comment on it which simply said ‘Beautiful…. just beautiful’.  At least now I feel that I did Richard proud.

The lesson learnt is that it’s OK to give of yourself when writing.
